The Ghatkopar police arrested six persons who mistook a man as a member of the chaddi-baniyan gang and assaulted him with iron rods. When the victim was being taken to hospital, a mob of 30 intercepted the police van and threatened to torch the vehicle if the victim was not handed over.

The incident took place at around 7pm on Saturday. Ravi More, 37, resident of Parsiwadi in Ghatkopar (West) had gone to meet his younger brother Ajay at Ramji Pitamah Nagar in Bhatwadi, where he waited outside the municipal school no. 3.

Meanwhile, a police mobile van reached the spot; when the mob intercepted the van, and additional police force was rushed to the spot. Six men were arrested, the mob was dispersed and More was taken to the Rajawadi hospital, where he was administered six stitches on his head before being discharged.
