If you are single, the chances of you being allowed to visit Mumbai’s symbolic places on the New Year eve are slim.
Stags in the city can find it difficult to celebrate the 31st night at the symbolic and the liveliest places of the city, as Mumbai Police have decided to stop the entry of single men in order to avoid molestation incidents.
“Single men or a group of men will be intercepted by the police at places where most of the Mumbaikars like to go to celebrate their New Year evening. This step will help us minimise the incidents of molestation and eve-teasing to make the city women more secure,” said police commissioner D Sivanandhan.
Men in the company of a woman or with a family will not face any trouble on the 31st night. The police are also suggesting women in the city to move around in groups while going out late night.
The police have hired video cameras to capture the celebrations at public places.
“Recording will help us catch people who tend to get notorious on these occasions,” said Sivanandhan.
No lights will be switched off on the night of December 31 in order to stop people who take advantage of darkness to do mischievous activities.
The police will also use metal detectors at crowded places. “The entire police force, including all top officers, will be on the roads on the New Year eve to ensure the security of every citizen,” said the commissioner.
