Keeping in mind the upcoming civic bodies’ elections, the Shiv Sena has apparently attempted to woo a different section of the electorate – milk distributors.

In a firm stand against Amul, the country’s largest dairy co-operative, the Sena has extended its support to the planned ‘boycott’ of Amul milk by milk distributors in Thane and Mumbai on Thursday.

The distributors are demanding 10% commission instead of 2% to 3% currently given on every litre of milk. According to the Sena, the distributors get only 80 paise per litre as commission from Amul, whereas other milk companies offer Re1.8 to Rs2
per litre.

Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday extended his support to the boycott. “Amul should consider the demands of distributors with due respect and concern. Sena will stand with the distributors in their struggle,” said Thackeray.

Amul managing director, RH Sodhi, denied knowledge of any such action against Amul milk. “We have no such knowledge and people who are planning the boycott are not our distributors. These are all vested interests and there is no need to panic. We treat our distributors with due respect,” he said.
