Mumbai: Perhaps, it's not just the film fraternity alone that is backing away from actor Shiney Ahuja, who is in judicial custody for allegedly raping his domestic help. When the actor was produced at the Andheri court for extension of judicial remand on Thursday afternoon, Ahuja found neither his advocate, Samir Nangre, nor wife Anupam present in his support.

The absence of his wife was all the more conspicuous as following Ahuja's arrest, she had vehemently denied the charges and vowed to "stand by her man".

But after the police claimed that the actor's forensic report and the victim's medical examination confirmed "sexual assault", his wife began to stay away from the media. In all probability, she stayed away from the courtroom on Thursday to avoid being hounded by the media.

Advocate Nangre, said that he stayed away as "it was not necessary for me to be present in the court today."
