Industrialist Baba Kalyani will formally inaugurate the prestigious MTech-PhD programme run by the new department of technology on November 11.

This industry-supported course was the dream project of University of Pune’s (UoP) ex-vice chancellor, RK Shevgaonkar, who could not be launch the programme during his tenure owing to lack of coordination and dissent between top UoP officials involved in the programme. Shevgaonkar will be a special guest at the event.

The integrated course started last month with 36 students being selected for the first batch — 19 through entrance examinations and the rest were nominated by corporates. There was a delay in declaration of results of entrance examinations as well due to lack of coordination between UoP top officials over signing of results.
Meanwhile, varsity officials are excited over the inaugural event of its most unique course so far.

“Even the date (11.11.11) will be remembered, as the launch of this course will set a new precedent in industry-academic interface,” said a senior UoP professor.

Board of college and university development director, Vasudev Gade said, “Dr RK Shevgaonkar has been especially invited for this ceremony, as this course was his brainchild and a result of
his efforts.”
