Nano, the common man’s car, will soon boast of a Rs1-crore price tag. Car designer Dilip Chhabria is working on redesigning the Rs1-lakh car with accessories that will shoot up the price
significantly.
DC Designs Private Limited, Chhabria’s company, has taken to making this boutique car that is expected to begin a new chapter for vehicle designing in India. “Nano has already gathered a lot of attention worldwide for being the cheapest car. Now this enhanced version of the small car is going to tell the world what India or Indian designers are capable of delivering in terms of car designs,” said Chhabria, founder and managing director, DC Designs.
The Rs1-crore Nano will be ready by April-May. Chhabria has plans to showcase it at the Paris auto show in September-October. As of now, the designer and his team are working on a single Nano model and adding the necessary accessories to it.
Chhabria, however, said that Tata Motors, the makers of Nano, are not involved in this project. “This is an independent project to showcase our designing strengths,” he said adding that the car would be a two-seater and come with a Suzuki hayabusa 4 cylinder 1360cc engine and lowered sports adjustable coil covers.
The other features include Zenox headlamp lighting, indicator and marker lamps LED type, and large one polycarbonate articulated wipers. There is also a panoramic front windscreen that sits on the stock windscreen and front facia body in white aperture.
“The car can be customised as per requirements,” said Chhabria. There is also video still image, internet and GPS, all displayed on an IP screen. Embedded lighting in the roof liner customisable for position and intensity and throw.
“With major original equipment manufacturers looking at India as a low-cost destination amidst the difficult times, the country will soon emerge as a designing hub for global players. In the coming 12-18 months, we will see close to four major companies setting up their design and development centres here,” said Chhabria.
Some of the companies which have already set a base are Maruti, General Motors and Renault. They are seriously looking at India-designed cars.
