The Mafatlal family dispute has been settled amicably as per the consent terms filed before the Bombay high court on Tuesday, with Atulya Mafatlal, his daughter Marushka and sister Kunti Shah writing an unconditional apology to Atulya’s socialite wife Sheetal.

As per the consent terms, Sheetal gets undisturbed right to the room where she currently resides at Mafatlal Bungalow on Altmount Road. And she can stay there as long as she pleases.

Her articles, which were taken away, such as antiques, carpets, and books, will be returned to her. Atulya has stated he has no objection to her keeping some of the valuable paintings in the bungalow.

Both the sides have agreed to withdraw criminal complaints filed against each other.
Marushka had filed a complaint alleging that Sheetal had stolen a few valuable paintings from the bungalow, while Sheetal had filed a complaint alleging cruelty by Mafatlals under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act. Following the settlement, the HC quashed the harassment case registered by the socialite.

In the written apology, Atulya stated that he was misguided by his mother Madhuri and brother Ajay. “I now realise that my family, namely my mother and brother Ajay Mafatlal (Aparna Mafatlal, who was previously my sister and source of major issues concerning our family) were successful in blinding and playing me and my children against my own better judgment,” reads the letter.

During Tuesday’s hearing, the court was informed that the mediation between Sheetal, Madhuri, Ajay and Gayatri Jhaveri had failed. Rajendra Shirodkar and Sayaji Nangre, representing Gayatri, said that Sheetal had asked for an unconditional apology, which she required to be published. However, Parvez Memon and Zulfiquar Memon, Sheetal’s representatives, informed the court that they only wanted a written apology, not to be published.

The HC suggested that Sheetal, Madhuri, Ajay and Gayatri come to court on August 9, apologise to each other and settle the dispute.
