Devendra Sawant, father of the deceased Ashwini Kurne told DNA about the phone conversation he had with his daughter on Thursday.
“She was very happy while talking to me and was discussing her plans to go to our native place in Sangli. She had also told me that she had gone shopping and had bought some sarees for herself,” Sawant said.
“She was very excited about the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi and wanted to celebrate it in our hometown,” added Sawant.
“While talking to her, I never got a sense that she was having problems. After marriage, she never spoke of any family issues she was having due to which I cannot believe that such an incident could occur,” said Sawant.
“She was a very loving person and a very good daughter. Since childhood, she was very close to me. I thought she and Abhijeet were happy,” stated Sawant, adding, “As soon as I heard about the incident from Kurne’s family, for some time, I could not believe what I was hearing and it was hard for me and my family to face the reality. My mind has just stopped working and there is nothing I can think of or point towards that could have led to this incident,” said Sawant.
He said investigations are on. “Abhijeet’s business was doing well and my daughter appeared to be content,” added Sawant.
