Citing MNS chief Raj Thackeray's allegations against Shiv Sena that the party had misappropriated Rs40,000 crore in the Mumbai civic body, NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Friday called for a probe into it.

He was addressing an election rally with Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan here this evening.

Pawar alleged that in Thane and Mumbai municipal corporations, crores of rupees of funds that came from the Centre for the development, had been misappropriated.

Raj Thackeray had recently said in an interview that the saffron combine at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) was responsible for irregularities worth Rs40,000 crore in the last five years.

Reacting to this, Pawar said the questions he (Raj) had raised are serious as the person was once part of the family that is running the BMC.

He asked Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to carry a through probe into these allegations and said that the citizens should now realise who should be chosen,.

Holding the Sena-BJP combine responsible for the sorry state of Mumbai, Pawar said the leaders had no vision for the city's development.

In a veiled attack on Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray, NCP chief Sharad Pawar said that contrary to the party supremo Bal Thackeray, generation next of Shiv Sena would not be able to manage the show at the civic corporations.

Criticising the BJP over the Karnataka assembly incident, in which, three ministers were caught viewing pornographic film, Pawar said, "Do you want such people to rule you, who would stick to their interests and leave you in the lurch?"

Chief Pritviraj Chavan said that only the Congress-NCP alliance is capable of delivering goods to the citizens, which is why, people should vote them to power.

"Congress being in power at the centre and state would help proper co-ordination and we have a vision," he said.
