Seven killed in accident on Pune-Ahmednagar Road

A trip for a religious function turned into a tragedy on Saturday morning when seven people were killed and four injured in a road accident. The Tata Sumo they were travelling in collided with a stationary trailer truck at Narayanghavane village near Shirur on the Pune-Ahmednagar Road around 5.30am.

The deceased have been identified as Bhagwat Narayan Wayal, 40, Kalpana Bhagwat Wayal, 36, Vaishali Baban Jaiswal, 55, Nilima Pravin Jaiswal, 30, Prashant Chandrakant Hinge, 40, Sumati Pundlik Borkar, 40, all residents of Mehkar in Buldhana district and Mangalabai Dilip Baisariya, 60 of Amravati.

The injured, identified as Vilas Sakhram Dolas, 40, Sanjay Bhimrao Burkul, 40, Kavita Sanjay Burkul, 32 and Tejesh Pravin Jaiswal, 10, were admitted to a private hospital in Shirur.

Bhagwat Wayal and his wife Kalpana were teachers in Mehkar, while Tejesh is the son of Nilima Jaiswal.

According to the police, 11 people were going in the Sumo (MH 26 AC 4600) from Mehkar to Pune for attending a religious programme on Sinhagad Road.

The senior police inspector, TK Vahile, of Parner police station, told DNA, “On Friday at 11.30pm, these people started their journey to Pune. When they reached near Narayanghavane village, the driver of the Sumo, Bhagwat, lost control over the wheels and dashed from behind the stationary trailer truck.”

Local residents rushed to the spot and informed the police. Vahile said, “The impact of the accident was such that six people were killed on the spot. Hinge was declared brought dead at the hospital. Four people sustained injuries and were rushed to a private hospital in Shirur. Tejesh Jaiswal was later discharged from the Shirur hospital and three injured were shifted to Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune and are reported out of danger.”

The police have lodged a complaint against the unidentified trailer driver.
