Senior citizen found murdered on Kamayani Express

An Uttar Pradesh-based woman was found murdered in a long-distance train upon its arrival at the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Railway station in Mumbai, railway police said today.

An Uttar Pradesh-based woman was found murdered in a long-distance train upon its arrival at the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Railway station in Mumbai, railway police said today.

The body of Nankilal Mohammed Siddique (65), who was arriving in the city to attend her grandson's marriage, was found by her other grandson Mohammed Imran Siddique (20) in the ladies compartment of the Kamayani Express last night, the Government Railway Police (GRP) said.

Nankilal's neck and veins of a hand were found to be slashed with a sharp object, they said.

In the past one and half month, this is the third instance of body of a female being found in the premises of city railway.

According to police, Nankilal and Mohammed had boarded the Kamayani Express from Allahabad on Friday. Mohammed was travelling in the ladies compartment along with his grandmother.

"As the train reached Thane railway station here, an unidentified person boarded the ladies compartment and asked Mohammed to shift to general boogie saying that gents were not allowed in the ladies compartment," Tukaram Chavan, commissioner of GRP, said.

"After Mohammed shifted to a general bogie, the man who had boarded the ladies boogie in Thane may have murdered the elderly woman while the train was on its way to the LTT railway station. Rs2,500 in cash was missing from the victim," Chavan said.

Nankilal's body was found by Mohammed when he went back to the ladies compartment at the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus station, he said adding that based on Mohammed's description, GRP was preparing the sketch of the suspect, Chavan said.
