After a disappointing performance in the Assembly elections, an organisational change in the Shiv Sena is on the cards. With an eye on the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, which is scheduled to take place in 2011, the party may increase the number of party officials at the zone level, and replace officials at the ward level, sources said.
"The Sena may appoint a zonal chief for every three Assembly segments, and replace more than 50 per cent officials at the ward level," the source said. At present, the party has one zonal chief for six Assembly segments. A Sena leader listed out the reasons for such a change. "Many of our zonal chiefs have lost contact with the grassroot workers.
We need aggressive workers at the ward levels to retain power in the BMC," he said.
Uddhav Thackeray had hinted last week that organisational changes may take place. "There will be changes. But it has no connection with the party's performance in the polls. Changes are an ongoing process," he said.
