Shiv Sena is likely to field senior leader Ramdas Kadam for Maharashtra Council polls scheduled on December 18.
Kadam, who lost the state Assembly polls held in last month from Guhagar in coastal Konkan region, is likely to be nominated from Mumbai local government bodies constituency, party souces said.
Kadam yesterday met Sena executive chief Uddhav Thackeray at the latter's residence Matoshree in suburban Bandra. There was a detailed discussion among the two and Kadam's name has been almost finalised for the Council poll, the sources said.
Kadam has also collected the nomination form from the collector's office in Mumbai, the sources added.
The defeat of Kadam in Assembly polls was humiliating to Sena, as he was the leader of opposition in Assembly. Sena leadership was also criticised for not taking efforts during Kadam's poll campiagn.
However, the party does not want to lose its senior leader and is rehabiliting him by making him MLC, the sources said.
There are also reports that TV actor Aadesh Bandekar, who lost from Mahim constituency in Central Mumbai on Sena ticket, may be fielded for Council poll.
There are nine vacant seats in the Council, comprising eight for local government bodies and one from graduates constituency.
