The Shiv Sena will prepare its manifesto based on the suggestions by the voters, party executive chief Uddhav Thackeray said on Tuesday.
“We have decided to focus on the issues of drought, law and order, electricity and farmers during the election campaign. We need to know what the ordinary voters feel. What are their expectations from the Sena? Which are the issues they think are of their concern. That’s why we will take suggestions from the voters and accommodate them in the manifesto,” said Thackeray.
The Sena has said that the voters can feel free to register their suggestions with the party’s helpline number 022-24222222 or email them to mazamaharashtra@shivsena.org.
Thackeray said that he was 100% confident of winning the election. “For me, defeating the Congress-NCP is more important than to decide who will be the chief minister. My target is to free the farmers from the burden of debt. It is like another freedom movement for me,” he said.
He took potshot at Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray for his remarks that the new government cannot take shape without MNS. “We do not need any agent to form the government. I do not know whether anybody has a shop where power can be sold. We will form the government with the help of the common people,” he said.
Political observers see the decision to invite suggestions as a new strategy to accommodate the commoners in the party’s functioning. “When Bal Thackeray was leading the Sena, he was very keen in knowing the public opinion. He used to fire the
Sena corporators after reading readers’ letters in newspapers complaining of garbage and debris in their areas,” an observer said.
