More than 15 people who run small bag-manufacturing units and sewing units in Khedegolavili locality of Kalyan  on Monday registered a case of extortion against Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Tare at Kolsewadi police station.

Complainant Rajesh Kumar Sav said, “Tare is the corporator for Khedegolavli in Kalyan. Few days back, Tare called owners of all the units to his office and said that if we wanted to run the unit in his ward we will have to pay him a hafta of Rs1,000 a month per unit.”

When they refused to accept the offer, Tare allegedly threatened them that the condition in Khedegolavali will be similar to that of Nasik where North Indians were forced to go back to their native places in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. DD Gavare, senior PI, said, “Tare has been booked for extortion under various sections of IPC.”
