The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray on Tuesday trained his gun once again on the Shiv Sena for not thrashing Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi for making derogatory remarks against Sena chief Bal Thackeray.
“Abu Azmi should have been beaten for making such remarks against Balasaheb,” Raj said. “They (Sena leaders) stood near his car and asked him whether he made any such remark. They fear to face police cases. They earned everything because of Balasaheb’s blessings. But did not act when Abu said that Balasaheb was in his last phase of life,” he said.
Raj was addressing a meeting of the party workers at Shanmukhanand hall in Matunga. He appealed to them to win people’s heart by constructive work. He appreciated party MLAs Shishir Shinde, Ramesh Vanjale, Vasant Gite and Ram Kadam for their attempt to refrain Azmi from taking oath of office in Hindi.
“We did not have any intention to contempt the house. He (Azmi) started it all. He wrote a letter and announced that he will take oath in Hindi. But no action was taken against him. Those who said Marathi pride was their issue had sealed their mouth. No Shiv Sena MLA came forward,” said Raj.
He came down on the Bharatiya Janata Party too. “The BJP cannot decide their policy. Now a days, Narendra Modi does not even utter the ‘Hi’ of Hindutva. He speaks about Gujarati asmita (pride) and development. If BJP can have Gujarati and Karnataka pride, then why do they pretend only in Maharashtra,” he said.
“I do not hate any language. I am not breaking the country. But the others should respect Marathi and the people of Maharashtra. Ashok Singhal should show guts to press for use of Hindi in Tamil Nadu, which had threatened to break away from the country a few years ago,” he said.
