The repercussions of a rave party at a Khalapur hotel, which was exposed by police authorities in Raigad, reached Mumbai on Wednesday. Shiv Sena and Congress activists clashed outside Sena Bhavan, where activists of the Youth Congress had planned an anti-drug street play right outside the Sena headquarters.
The Sena’s youth wing Yuva Sena has been mired in the rave party controversy ever since it came to light that its members was instrumental in arranging the party. Sena MLA Subhash Desai’s son Bhushan was allegedly present at the party.
Irked by the Youth Congress’ decision to stage a street play outside Sena Bhavan, around 400 Sena activists armed with wooden sticks, gathered near Shivaji Park in Dadar. Angry protesters burned the Youth Congress flag and vandalised vehicles sporting Congress stickers.
“There was a small fight between Congress and Sena activists. Though the crowd was large in number, police authorities brought the situation under control,” said Madhukar Sankhe, ACP, Dadar division.
The Sena leadership, however, maintained that the party had no intention to carry out a violent agitation, as the original agitation planned was on the issue of the price hike. “The Congress wanted to divert attention from the price hike issue. Shiv Sainiks felt that, it was an attack on Sena Bhavan and could not allow it,” said Anil Desai, Sena secretary. He added that the party had no intention to carry out a violent agitation, but the Congress party forced them.
Interestingly, despite allegations of alleged involvement of its cadre, the Sena mouthpiece Samana on Wednesday, carried an editorial slamming the ‘spoiled brats’ who were involved in the rave party. The editorial has even advised parents to keep a watch on the movements of their children.
