The Opposition Shiv Sena-BJP today submitted a joint letter to Protem speaker Ganpatrao Deshmukh proposing the name of BJP leader Eknath Khadse as the new Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.
The letter was signed by Girish Bapat, chief whip of the BJP Legislature party and Subhash Desai, the Sena leader in the lower House, BJP general secretary and MLC Vinod Tawde said.
The Leader of Opposition post goes to BJP as it got two more seats than Shiv Sena in the just concluded assembly election.
BJP got 46 and Sena 44.
Shiv Sena had contested 169 and BJP 119 seats.
Leader of Opposition in the last assembly Ramdas Kadam of Shiv Sena was defeated in the elections.
