With increased instance of autism diagnosed among children, two experts from the United States will be in Mumbai to conduct a Relation Development Intervention (RDI) conference with parents this weekend. The seminar will throw light on the parent-based treatment programme that will help parents establish give and take relationships. The programme is based on the latest scientific research about autism, the brain and development psychology.

“We are organising this one of a kind programme so as to help parents, teachers and any individual who comes in contact with children with autism. RDI is one of the latest developments in the field of autism. The seminar will be conducted by Dr Steve Gutstein and Dr Rachelle Sheely, Texas and a specialist in autism,” said Kamini Lakhani, director of the school, Support for Autistic Individuals (SAI).

The conference comes at a time when several parents without adequate support or expertise for their children have had to travel to foreign countries for guidance. With newer research suggesting successful treatment, the seminar will teach a different approach in teaching and managing children with autism.

“According to the Dr Gutstein, autistic individuals have every hope of living a normal, fulfilling life. The new approach is based on solid scientific work,” explained Lakhani, who is also an RDI consultant. The seminar will be conducted during November 21-22 at MCA Club, Bandra Kurla Complex.

Around 150 parents, teachers and children are expected to attend the conference.
