The Bandra-Worli Sea Link seems to be catching the fancy of marketing and advertising agencies in the country. Even Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL)hasreplaced the picture of the Gateway of India on its CD-ROM telephone directory.
“MTNL general manager (call centre) Ram Shankar had written to the corporation asking permission to use the picture of the sea link. We have given the telecom company a go-ahead provided they use the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) logo,” said a senior MSRDC official.
The companies involved in the making of the sea link have already used its pictures to market themselves. Steel Authority of India (SAIL) and Ultratech cement have used the bridge in their advertising campaigns while Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has also sought permission to use it to advertise its products, added the official.
According to Satish Gawai, managing director and-vice chairman of MSRDC, they are very cautious about giving permission to companies who wish to use the bridge. Companies like software giant Microsoft and entertainment company Wizcraft are still awaiting permission to use the bridge to launch latest software and hold a Formula One race event respectively.
“While permission has been given to hold the annual Mumbai Marathon on January 17 next year, MSRDC has denied a media giant to hold a walkathon,” said Gawai.
