With the arrest of 21-year-old Vishal Srivastava in the Antop Hill double murder case, the police are hopeful to get clues of the unsolved murder of BARC scientist at Gamdevi area last year.
On February 23, 2010, scientist Mahadevan Iyer was found killed at his Gamdevi flat. Investigations revealed that Iyer was homosexual and some gay friend of his could be involved in the murder. The police questioned several homosexuals but were unable to make any breakthrough.
During investigations of the Antop Hill murders, in which a 53-year-old woman and her three-year-old granddaughter were killed in June, the police questioned Srivastava.
He told the police that he was gay and that he frequented Marine Drive and Mahim areas in search of partners, sources said.
“Initially, we did not believe that was gay but later, he told us how he used to get in touch with gay partners. He also used Facebook and other social networking sites for this. We have gone through his friends’ list,” said an officer, a part of the investigation team.
The police are hopeful to get clues on Iyer’s murder from Srivastava’s gay friend circuit.
