Actor Salman Khan on Thursday appeared as a prosecution witness in a case against gangster Chhota Shakeel’s aide Anjum Fazlani. He, however, failed to identify the accused.
Fazlani had allegedly threatened Salman to reduce his fee for producer Nazim Rizvi’s movie Chori Chori Chupke Chupke (2001) or face dire consequences.
“Khan stuck to his police statement and told the court that he met Fazlani only once or twice several years ago. Hence, he was not sure about his appearance and failed to identify him,” said special public prosecutor, Rohini Salian.
Salman also told the special MCOCA judge MP Kukday that he had met Fazlani either with Rizvi or someone else.
The actor, clad in a black shirt and cream trousers, told the court that he was approached by Rizvi and assistant producer Abdul Rahim Allahbaksh with an offer to play the lead role in the movie.
Khan said he agreed to the offer on the condition that the movie should be directed by a well-established director. Although Rahim had wanted to direct the film, the movie was finally directed by Abbas-Mastaan, Khan said.
The prosecution’s case is that the film was financed by Bharat Shah at the behest of Chhota Shakeel.
