Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, the prime accused in the Malegaon blast case, was shifted to Mumbai on Thursday evening.
Thakur was undergoing treatment at an Ayurvedic hospital in Nashik after she was diagnosed with spine problems and other ailments. After the Bombay high court reinstated the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in the case, all the accused were shifted to Mumbai.
The sadhvi had applied for permission to continue treatment in Nashik. However, special MCOCA judge YD Shinde ordered that she be shifted to a jail in Byculla.
The order stated that the doctors at Byculla jail should examine her and suggest treatment accordingly. If needed, she can be admitted to JJ Hospital or any other hospital in Mumbai, the judge said.
Thakur was brought to the city in an ambulance. On her way she complained of chest pain and nausea and had to be admitted in a private hospital in Igatpuri for a few hours.
He advocates said: “My client was shifted on court order, but she fell ill on her way. It was suggested that she be brought back to Nashik, but the cops decided to admit her to a hospital in Igatpuri. It is understood that she was taken to Kalyan.”
