A 28-year-old journalist with Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna was found dead at his home in Parel on Monday. Acase of unnatural death has been registered, but Manish Kelkar’s family has alleged that he ended his life due to harassment by a superior in the office.
Kelkar was found hanging with a nylon rope from the ceiling of his bedroom. The incident came to light around 11.40am. Kelkar was rushed to KEM Hospital where he was declared dead before admission. He is survived by his wife and a one-year-old son.
“Manish had been working as a senior sub-editor in Saamna for about eight years,” said senior inspector Vikhram Patil from Bhoiwada police station. “No suicide note was found in his residence. We still have to ascertain the reason behind his step.”
Suresh Kelkar, Manish’s father, a photographer with Saamna, has alleged that his son was a victim of harassment in office. “His superior Vidyadhar Chindarkar used to harass him. Fed up with the torture, he may have committed suicide,” said Suresh in his statement to the police.
When DNA contacted Saamna, Chindarkar was not available for comment.
Manish had written a few stories for the paper.
