The Chief Minister’s scheme of delivering driving licences to the applicants by post has helped the city’s Regional Transport Offices (RTO) uncover 16, 523 fake applications and contain the menace of illegal applications.
The scheme, unveiled on April 1 by the Chief Minister, made it compulsory for all driving licence applicants to receive the delivery of their driving licences at their homes. This was done to ensure that the applicants gave real addresses and the practice of providing fake identity proofs and residence proofs to get driving licences was reined in.
Now, statistics from the city’s RTOs show that the practice is still prevalent. But it is being brought under control gradually.
