Four armed men barged into a Borivli agency, which undertakes outsourced assignments from a public sector bank, and robbed cash amounting to Rs1.8 lakh after olding the staff at gunpoint.

In the incident that took place on Friday afternoon, the four armed men entered the agency, which is responsible for transferring the public bank’s money to other states as well as opening new accounts.

The four robbers, all aged between 25-30 years, came in a white Maruti Esteem and entered in the office. At the time of incident only two staffers, namely Virendra Vind and Deepak Dalvi, were present in the office. Deputy commissioner of police Mahesh Patil said, “The four immobilised Vind and Dalvi using the revolver and the chopper they were carrying and threatened them with dire consequences. They then took the cash amounting to Rs1.80 lakh kept at the counter. When Vind tried to retaliate, they attacked him and he sustained an injury on his arm.” The four then decamped in the car, even as people outside the office say they did not notice anything as strange as a robbery.

It was only when Vind informed the police that a team rushed to the spot and lodged a compliant. “Preliminary investigation has shown that a CCTV installed in the opposite building had captured the car’s registration number, which seems to indicate that it was a stolen vehicle,” said a police officer.
