The Rotary Club of Poona Midtown and Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC), a software company, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a project 'Engineering Future India' in Pune on Monday in the presence of Rotary International president Kalyan Bannerjee.
President of Rotary Club of Poona Midtown Amit Jadhav announced the joint venture where PTC has donated special software worth Rs45 crore to the Rotary Club of Poona Midtown.
According to Jadhav, the software could help design anything from a pin to an air plane.
Four hundred copies of this software would be installed in schools so that the scientific temper of schoolchildren in Pune and the surrounding rural areas could be kindled.
Gregory Sisk, senior director, Asia Pacific and Middle East Education Programme of PTC who was present in the city to sign the MoU said, "We need more engineering processes and this is why we are catching students in school. The children can access scientific knowledge. It takes an entire village to raise a child and we are playing a part in raising these children.''
After signing the MoU, district governor of District Number 3131, Mohan Palesha praised the efforts of Jadhav to get to the grass root level and work with the children. Palesha said the project was going to benefit 1.25 lakh children and he hoped that the programme would become successful and be implemented in other cities too.
According to Palesha, the project had been started in 180 schools in and around Pune city. "We have got another 40 schools in the waiting, and we are planning to target another 200 schools for the same.''
Jadhav said that there would be a robotics competition annually for the schools so that progress of the children could be monitored.
