Road safety awareness events lined up in Mumbai

As the United Nations gets ready to launch its much-discussed ‘Decade of action for road safety 2011-2020’ on Wednesday, a city-based association advocating the cause of motorists and road safety, the Western India Automobile Association (WIAA), has planned a series of events in the city to create awareness about road safety on the same day.

Nitin Dossa of the WIAA said, the association plans to organise five activities on Wednesday.

Distribution of helmets for two wheelers, holding of an eye camp for taxi drivers at the Traffic police headquarters and WIAA head office in the presence of commissioner of police, training of drivers of the public transport buses at various places, distribution of “Observe Traffic Rules” stickers at various traffic signals and meetings with Transport officials, Police and other concerned departments for future projects on road safety.

A recent report stated that roads in Mumbai were highly accident-prone, and topped the country with 34.11 % mishaps.
