After 15 years, the new list of heritage structures in Pune will be ready in two months. Many less known sites and structures are likely to figure in the revised list.

A separate list of natural heritage will also be prepared by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

The civic body presently has grade I, grade II and grade III lists, including about 300 heritage structures. The survey work and documentation of listing are in process.

“As the development plan of the city is being revised, it is also important to revise the heritage list to facilitate better planning for conservation of these structures,” said Sham Dhavale, head of the heritage committee of PMC.

The meeting of the heritage committee was held on Monday and the revision of lists was discussed. The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (Intach) is revising the list, and the work will be completed in the next two months, Dhavale said.

“It involves a lot of groundwork like visiting sites, documentation and gradation. We would be looking at the structures and sites which we missed in the old lists. There are many small temples and old structures which need to be included in the list. The concept of heritage too has widened, so many new structures and sites will feature in the new list,” he said.

Natural heritage sites, including lakes, hills, ponds and old trees too, will be listed for conservation. The new areas added to the PMC limits in the past 15 years will also be surveyed.
