Mumbai: Car owners from western suburbs grappling with parking woes need not fret anymore. The Urban Development Department (UDD) along with the BMC and traffic department, have begun the process of identifying spots for underground parking lots.

While the authorities are doing their job, Bandra and Khar residents have suggested developing underground parking facilities at Patwardhan Udyan and the Bandra Reclamation ground.

In a letter to the UDD, the33 Road Khar (W) Advanced Locality Management (144) said: "The parking woe in this suburb is due to illegal parking and hawking. Having an underground parking at Patwardhan garden will solve the problem of traffic congestion. Further with the Bandra-Worli Sea Link operational, our parking woes will get worse."

"One side of Linking Road gets blocked by cars. Underground parking, will ensure a free flow of traffic here," said Sameer Kadam, owner of Pamposh and Hotel Kadam on Linking Road.

Manu Kumar Srivastava, secretary, UDD said, "We are forwarding the resident's recommendations to the BMC. The final feasibility of the underground parking lots will be examined by them."

MS Kumbhar, senior PI Bandra traffic divisionsaid, "If it is technically feasible then building a parking lot at Patwardhan Garden will be a welcome move."
