Mumbai police commissioner today sought a report on the accidental firing that occurred outside Taj hotel where US President Barack Obama was staying during his visit to the city last night, police said.

Assistant police inspector Suhas Choudhary, attached with the Crime Branch, accidentally pulled the trigger of his service weapon and injured himself outside the iconic Taj hotel where he was deployed yesterday.

Asked if he had sought any report on the firing incident, the city police chief Sanjeev Dayal said, "it is routine paper work."

Police sources said the commissioner has asked Colaba police station, in whose jurisdiction the incident took place, to file a report.

Dayal said the incident took place beyond the outer security perimeter of the luxury hotel which has been put in place for Obama's visit to the country's financial capital on the first leg of his maiden visit to the country.

"The incident was a result of an improper handling of the pistol by Choudhary," Dayal added.

The police commissioner said Choudhary was posted inside the hotel. The incident occurred after his duty was over when he was getting into his official vehicle parked outside the security perimeter.

"The API's leg was injured in the firing and now he is undergoing treatment at Bombay Hospital," the Commissioner said.

The Taj hotel was one of the places attacked on November 26, 2008 when ten terrorists from Pakistan entered Mumbai by the sea route. 166 persons were killed in the 60-hour siege of the city by terrorists.
