Reliance Infrastructure facing inquiry from the state power regulator into its tariff structure will be sending electricity bills for the month of June based on the old tariff, company sources said today.
The company was allowed an avergae hike of 7 per cent for residential consumers by Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) which was to come into force from June 1.
Company officials maintained the revised tariff could not be incorporated in the system in time .
The company in a message to consumers carried in the bills said, "necessary adjustment towards electricity consumption from June 1, 2009 will be included in the subsequent bills."
The Maharashtra government in a directive sent to MERC had stated that the company should not be allowed to send 'unreasoanble' bills to consumers pending the investigation by the regulator.
Shiv sena which had taken the lead in agitating against the tariff hike said in a press note today that it was due to the party's agitation that the company decided to send the bills based on older tariff.
