Uday Phatte, director, Arogya Mitra told DNA that the service was launched a week ago and in seven days it recorded 600 registrations from Pune.
“Over 600 parents have registered with us for an alert. This is a reminder message that will be sent to the parents who have children born after 2009,” Phatte said.
According to Phatte, the parents would need to register by sending an SMS to the following cellphone: +91 9246356765 provided by the organisation. “The free service is totally computerised and automated. It records the numbers of the registered members in a database and accordingly sends them alerts so that they get their baby vaccinated on time,” Phatte said.
Phatte said the system was generated according to a schedule based on the recommendations of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics and over 10 vaccination programmes had been included in the service.
The alerts will include vaccinations required in the first month, two weeks, four weeks, second month, eight weeks, 17 weeks, 26 weeks, 35 weeks, 39 weeks for measles, 47 weeks for hepatitis A, 56 weeks for chicken pox, 64 weeks and lastly 76 weeks for booster.
“We are the first ones to implement such a service in Pune. Basically, this is a pilot project and if successful, a statewide and then a national expansion will be considered,” Phatte said.
According to Phatte, the aim is to keep the babies healthy and away from infections and also to remind forgetful parents.
