‘Rapists’ held for killing victim’s brother in Pune

They wanted him to settle case out of court, he refused; crime branch arrests two men.

The city police crime branch unit IV sleuths claimed on Tuesday to have solved the murder of a 19-year-old that took place three months ago with the arrest of two youths, who had been earlier accused of raping the youth’s sister.

The police said Sunil alias Sonya Machhindra Gule (22) and Nilesh Mahesh Phalle (19) of Mohmmedwadi murdered the victim because he was not willing to reach an out-of-court settlement with them in the rape case.

The Kondhwa police had arrested the two suspects for alleged involvement in raping the victim’s sister in 2010. They were later granted bail. They allegedly met the victim and insisted that he settle the case out of court.

On December 12, 2010, the victim’s relatives lodged a missing persons case at Kondhwa police station. On December 19, the Paud police found the victim’s body at Wandre village. The Paud police had filed a murder case.

Additional commissioner of police (crime) AD Shinde said, “The Kondhwa police transferred investigations into the missing persons case to the crime branch. The crime branch sleuths kept a close watch on the suspects, as they had earlier been arrested for raping the victim’s sister. Later, on, noting their suspicious behavior, we interrogated them and they spilled the beans during interrogation.”

Shinde added, “The suspects called the victim out of his house on December 12, 2010 and whisked him away to Wandre village area on his bike. There they again requested him to settle the rape case and when he refused, they hit him with sticks till he died. Later they threw his body into a valley.”

Hotel manager assaulted
A hotel manager was abducted by a gang of four to an isolated spot near DY Patil College and assaulted on Monday.

The four suspects - Tushar Changude (26), a resident of Ramnagar housing society in Gawane Vasti, Shekhar Vilas Changude (22), a resident of Gawane Vasti, Bhupendra Singh (22), a resident of Akurdi and Chandrakant Joshi (18), a resident of an area near Hotel Indian Spics - have been arrested.

The victim, Vijay Shriram Tiwari (20), a resident of Walhekarwadi in Chinchwad, lodged a complaint against them.

PB Lokhande, inspector in-charge of Chinchwad police station told DNA, “Tiwari works as manager of Punjab hotel in Chinchwad. Changude owns a hotel in Dehu. The four men went to Punjab hotel after it closed. Tiwari was counting the cash collection when they entered the hotel and demanded a packet of cigarettes.

When Tiwari refused, they took him away in a car to an isolated spot and assaulted him. We rushed to the spot on being informed by Tiwari’s colleagues and arrested them.”

Cash stolen from temple
Thieves struck at a temple in Dhanori early on Monday and took away cash from the donation box. Balashaheb Baban Tingare (45), a resident of Dhanori lodged a complaint at Vishrantwadi police station. According to the police, “The complainant is a priest at the temple. The suspects forcefully entered the temple by breaking the lock and took away cash of Rs9,000 kept in the donation box.”

Rs5 lakh stolen in Pimpri
An amount of Rs5 lakh, along with the locker in which it was kept, was stolen from a consumer product marketing agency in Pimpri near Indira Gandhi Bridge on Tuesday.

No CCTV installed at CG Marketing Pvt Ltd. The office that employs 70 people is located on the ground floor of a complex opposite Hotel Gokul.

The agency was closed at 10 am on Monday. Thieves must have broken in early Tuesday morning after breaking the iron bars of the shop window.
