ShareChittish Das, 33, who allegedly raped his seven-year-old daughter for over three years and also let his friends rape her for money, had tried to force his second wife into prostitution.
Chittish and his two friends, Sabir Sayyed, 32, and Ashok Sahu, 33, were arrested by the Charkop police on Tuesday. They have been remanded in police custody till November 9. In his complaint to the police, the victim's grandfather, Arunachalan Das, 65, said that the girl is from Chittish's first marriage which ended in 2002. He remarried in 2008, this time to a girl from Kerala. However, a few months later, he allegedly started to force his wife to have physical relationship with other men. "Because of this the couple would fight a lot and he would hit her," said a police officer from Charkop police station.
Arunachalan said they had hoped that Chittish would settle down and lead a normal life after marriage. "Arunachalan said Chittish took a Rs5-lakh loan from his other son who is settled in Japan," the officer said. "When Chittish started harassing her, she left him and went back to Kerala."
"Chittish would take the child out at night saying that he was taking her for a walk or for snacks. Then he would charge around Rs700 and let his friends rape his daughter," he added.
Senior inspector P Gawande said that Chittish is famous as a goon in his area as he frequently gets into fights with neighbours.
