Did space constraint during Kala Ghoda festival at Horniman Circle wipe out that much-awaited music or dance performance?
Get ready for better luck this time round. For, taking note of the court curbs on loudspeaker use, the Kala Ghoda Association (KGA), which conducts the festival, will hold all its Rampart Row programmes at the spacious Cross Maidan.
The Rampart Row, which hosts poetry readings, dance performances, films and exhibitions, was shifted to Horniman Circle last year.
The nine-day festival held annually around this time of the year, is scheduled to begin on February 4. These include workshops for children, film screening, food corners, walk and bus tour of heritage sites, theatre and visual arts. The fest would be held at the Kala Ghoda premises, Museum premises, David Sassoon Library, NGMA, Cama Research Centre and the Horniman Circle.
The daily dance and music fests, which involves professionals and budding artistes from across India and abroad was until last year held at the amphitheatre area at Rampart Row.
“The area was marked as silence zone and so we could not conduct all our events there. All those that needed loudspeakers were moved to Horniman Circle,” said Maneck Davar, KGA chairperson.
Last year, the KGA had to move court and take no-objection permission from the church, synagoguge in the vicinity. But, it could still not use loudspeakers due to court premises that is withing the 100 mt distance.“At the Cross Maidan, we will be able to accommodate more audience,” said Pallavi Sharma, KGA CEO and in-charge of the music section.
