Sources said Yusuf Ahmed Khan, 28, a Myanmar national, has spilled the beans about some big names being involved in the August 11 riots, in which two people were killed.
The police will make the arrests after Bakri Eid.
According to sources, Khan, an illegal immigrant, worked as a sweeper in a mosque in the city.
Khan fled from the city after August 11 riots to evade arrest.
Sources said that while Khan was hiding, one of the organisers was constantly in touch with him over the phone.
Khan allegedly participated in the conspiracy and implemented the plan by being a part of the crowd that turned violent.
After his involvement in the violence was clear, he had to be called back because of the mounting pressure. He was arrested on Saturday.
Sources also said that they had identified some people whom Khan had contacted in Myanmar before and after the violence.
“There is a procedure which has to be followed if these people are to be arrested. We will approach the authorities with details for further action,” said a crime branch officer.
Khan was the first to get an SMS saying that 3 lakh minorities had being thrown out of their homes and 30,000 killed and robbed. It is suspected that Khan forwarded these text messages to some community leaders and organisers of the Azad Maidan protest rally.
Salim Lightwala, a Bandra resident, too got the SMS and mobilised around 40 people to attend the August 11 rally. He too was arrested on Saturday.
With the two arrests, the total number of accused in the case has gone up to 63. Out of these, five have been let off as they were found to be innocent.
On August 11, a huge crowd gathered in Azad Maidan to protest against protest the killings of Muslims in Myanmar and Assam. However, the rally soon took an ugly turn after some of the miscreants started pelting stones at policemen and media persons. Two persons died and over 60, including policemen, were injured.
