After senior crime journalist J Dey, gangster Santosh Shetty seems to be next in the line of fire of fugitive crime boss Chhota Rajan.

After his closest aide Osama Khan was murdered in Uttar Pradesh (UP) last September and Shetty was named as a prime suspect in the killing, it is being said that Rajan is plotting revenge. Underworld sources have informed the Mumbai police that Rajan plans to kill Shetty in transit when the latter will be taken to UP to be tried in Khan’s murder.
“We are aware of the threat to Shetty’s life and will take adequate precautions to ensure he is not targeted,” said a crime branch officer on condition of anonymity.
Shetty was deported from Bangkok last August and is lodged in Taloja jail.
Khan, 28, a close aide of Rajan’s, was found murdered on the outskirts of his village in Gurpur, Allahabad, on September 5, 2011, when he had gone to visit his family for Eid. The police had then found out that he was killed because of gang rivalry and the murder had been ordered by Vijay and Santosh Shetty.
Khan was believed to be among Rajan’s sharpest shooters. He was arrested, and later acquitted, in the Kalaghoda shootout case in which drug peddler Amjad Khan and his friend Himanshu Choudhary were killed. He was also arrested in the murder of gangster Farid Tanasha, but was later discharged from the case by the police.
