Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray today travelled on a suburban local train, reminding the people of a similar journey by Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi last year.

Thackeray travelled from suburban Dombivali, to Dadar in central Mumbai (where he lives) on the train, and blamed increasing number of "outsiders" for the rush.

He also said that he was not aping Rahul Gandhi. The Dombivali-Dadar road was very bad, and people prefer trains, he said.

"This is not the first time I am travelling by train. I used to take trains during my college days some 25 years ago," Thackeray told reporters.

"But now the crowd is increasing like anything, and the outsiders coming to the city are responsible for this burden on the infrastructure," he said.

Thackeray was in Dombivali to meet the party corporators who got elected in the Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation polls three months ago.

Rahul Gandhi had taken the people and the media by surprise when he travelled in the general compartment of a local train while in Mumbai last February.
