Campaigning for the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is gaining momentum and the first round of face-offs between the estranged Thackeray cousins began in Dadar on Friday.

“I went to Gujarat and sawthe administration and the projects. Despite tremendous development, I did not find a single poster saying ‘Karun Dakhvala’,” said Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, taunting Shiv Sena executive president and cousin Uddhav’s recent ad blitzkrieg. He was speaking at a talk show organised at Vanita Samaj Hall in Dadar, in front of a female audience.

Last month, the Sena had gone on an advertising spree, with posters of ‘Karun Dakhvala’ (We Did It) touting the party’s role in the city’s development.

The MNS chief stated that Modi does not publicly display his achievements because people there can see it with their own eyes. “Here they have to tell people again and again,” said Thackeray.

Blaming the administration, builders and politicians for the increase in the number of slums in Mumbai, Thackeray also attacked the government for giving free houses to people in slums when policemen and mill workers have been deprived of homes.

Thackeray also made it clear that he will not even think of taking support from any other party after the election, but can possibly think of giving support. “I have no intention to get married to any other party,” he said, bringing to an end discussions about his growing closeness with the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The MNS chief also mentioned that he will ensure that husbands of elected women corporators do not interfere. “If a woman is elected, then her husband should not be the working corporator. I will make sure that does not happen.”
