Baj Thackeray, who founded the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and who has been speaking pointedly about the interests of Marathi manoos in Maharashtra, went to Hotel Vaishali and feasted on South Indian delicacies udid wada, tomato onion uthappa and sabudana wada. He also ordered a cup of coffee without sugar to gulp it down.

Although Thackeray’s political career started with uncle Bal Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, which had once launched a stout agitation against South Indians in Mumbai, Raj Thackeray himself seems to have been going soft with them.

Recently, when the Belgaum controversy erupted, his remark advising Marathi people to learn Kannada in Maharashtra-Karnataka border area was controversial.

Thackeray was in Pune to campaign for the candidates of his party.

He visited Vaishali with his entourage of 20 people at 2.30 pm. Special seating arrangements were made for Raj Thackeray and his team on the terrace of Vaishali.

Hotel Vaishali on Fergussion College Road, which is known as a joint of the youth, is also known for its South Indian delicacies. The restaurant is not new to celebrities.

The manager of Hotel Vaishali told DNA, “Raj is a regular patron of Vaishali for almost 15 years. Some of his friends have been regulars of our hotel and he had come to meet them.

He prefers to sit on the terrace where he and his friends can chat in privacy. On Saturday, we had got a call that he will be visiting the hotel. He ordered udid wada, sabudana wada, tomato onion uthappa with green chillies and coffee without sugar.”
