Three days after travelling by a local train from Dombivli to Dadar, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray has undertaken another mission — to enroll maximum number of Marathi youths in the railways.

Thackeray on Wednesday said his party will carry out a state-wide campaign till February 15 to make more Marathi youths aware about the railway recruitment process. “Earlier, railway ministers from Bihar and rest of north India did not give chance to people from other parts of the country. But now there’s a chance and each and every one of you should grab it,” said Thackeray.

In the campaign a booklet explaining the entire recruitment process and instructions on preparations for the recruitment exam will be distributed. There are around 10,000 vacant seats to be filled in the Central and Western railways, which are on MNS’s radar. At the same time, by highlighting the Marathi youths’ employment issue, Thackeray has tried to supercede Shiv Sena-sponsored Sthaniya Lokadhikar Samiti, which has been demanding priority to local youths in jobs, for some time.

MNS, in the past, has undertaken violent agitations against the outside students, mainly from north India, who had come to Mumbai to appear for the recruitment exam.

Activists had beaten the students in October 2008 at different places in the city. The party had also accused the railway ministry for not publishing advertisements of the recruitment process in Marathi newspapers.
