Mumbai: Raj Thackeray loves speed. The progress of his Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS); the car he drives... everything has to be fast, very fast, said a party source.
Last week, Thackeray has made an addition to his fleet of fast cars -- a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser. The grey-blue Land Cruiser made heads turn as Thackeray set out on Tuesday morning for Karla, near Lonavala, to seek the blessings of family deity Ekvira Devi. All 13 MLAs of his party were present to see him off.
"Saheb (Raj) is crazy about three Cs -- cinema, car and cartoon," said the MNS source. "He has a fleet of cars -- an Audi, a Skoda, a Pajero, a Mercedes, and now, this Land Cruiser. He loves to be in the driver's seat, even when on a long haul.
"Not only saheb, his drivers too are emotionally attached to his cars. A few years ago, one of his drivers had a verbal duel with a journalist, who had touched saheb's car out of curiosity. He said he could not tolerate anybody, apart from himself and saheb's family members, touching the car."
Interestingly, all of Thackeray's car have the same number -- 9. He believes the number is lucky for him.
Thackeray has a love for the best of brands. His political idol is Bal Thackeray. His cartoons are influenced by David Lowe. Lata Mangeshkar is his favourite singer. Sachin Tendulkar is his most loved cricketer. And when it comes to film, his choice is none other than Amitabh Bachchan.
About his designer sunglasses, he had once said, "Earlier, when I stepped out of home in the sweltering heat, I used to feel a throbbing pain in my neck and the lower part of my head. Doctors advised me to wear sunglasses. It worked. So, I thought that when I have to wear sunglasses, I would rather make a style statement with them."
