A top official of Adlabs Processing was arrested for allegedly stealing a masterprint of the Ashutosh Gowariker-directed What’s Your Raashee? that releases in cinema halls on Friday.

Durgadas Bhakta, business development manager at Adlabs Processing at Film City, Goregaon, was allegedly involved in giving out the masterprint of the multi-crore movie for Rs2 lakh. The police have also arrested Ajay Udayansingh Pal, Afsar alias Ashraf Haider Hussain, Firoz alias Sameer Irfan Khan and Aman alias Tanzeem Ali Hameed Ali. Pal is reportedly Bhakta’s colleague.

“We have arrested five persons involved in the piracy racket and are investigating the case further,” deputy commissioner of police (enforcement) Sheila Sail said. According to the police, the masterprint was found to be missing a few days after it was given to Adlabs. Police sources said that when Gowariker learnt about it, he immediately lodged a police complaint. The case was then taken over by the Mumbai crime branch.

“We received information that some persons would arrive near Kherwadi junction with the masterprint on Saturday. We laid a trap and arrested Afsar, Firoz and Aman from the spot. We recovered the print from them,” a police official said.

The official added that, on interrogation, the three revealed that they got the print from Film City . “They claimed they had given Rs2lakh to Durgadas and his associate Ajay, who were arrested on Sunday night. The gang said they planned to make pirated CDs and DVDs of the movie, and wanted to make crores by selling them in India and abroad.

We are verifying whether Ajay was with Adlabs Processing,” the official said. The police also seized pirated CDs and DVDs of the movie from the gang.  All five were produced before a local court and were remanded to police custody till September 30.
