The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has seized a silver Qualis in which Ramnarayan Gupta alias Lakhan Bhaiyya was allegedly kidnapped and killed during an alleged fake police encounter in 2006.
The SIT had got details of the Qualis after the arrest last week of Sunil Solanki, the driver of the vehicle.
“Following investigations, we arrested Solanki and during interrogation we learnt about the vehicle. We found the current owner of the vehicle and got him to hand over the car to us,” a SIT officer said.
Till date, 10 persons have been arrested in the case, including encounter specialist and dismissed police inspector Pradeep Sharma and senior police inspector, Pradeep Suryavanshi of MIDC police station.
According to the police, Ramnarayan was a close aide of gangster Chhota Rajan and his lieutenant D K Rao, who is currently lodged in jail. Police claimed that on the evening of November 11, acting on a tip-off, the DN Nagar police station police accosted Ramnarayan at Nana Nani Park in Versova. Seeing them, Ramnarayan fired, and was shot in retaliation. Ramnarayan was declared dead before admission to hospital.
His brother Ramprasad then moved court stating that the encounter was fake. The court asked the police to form a special team and register a case against the guilty policemen.
