Puneites are all geared up to welcome the Marathi New Year on Gudi Padva. Owners of shops selling electronic goods in the city are expecting a brisk sale of electronic items, especially, LED television sets, refrigerators and washing machines.

In the Union budget, the finance ministry decided to increase the excise duty from 10% to 12% and it affected the pricing of the electronics goods. The prices of the electronic goods have gone up by two to four per cent. However, according to the shopkeepers, it will not have a dampening effect and the consumers will go ahead with the purchase of electronic items.

Shoaib Mohammad peerzada, manager of the Maharashtra Electronics, said, “There is a high demand for LED and LCD televisions. There is also a demand for refrigerators and washing machines. Even though, there is an increase in the price, people are still going for these items.’’
