Sharma has been accused of emailing vital data and source code of a company program to her husband
PUNE: A former engineer with a Pune-based software solutions company, 3DPLM Software Solutions, has been charged with transferring vital data from her company days before she quit her job.
Anita Sharma, 26, who worked as a computer engineer at 3DPLM Software Solutions, was remanded in police custody till Friday by first-class judicial magistrate after the company accused her of cyber theft worth $12 million.
While Sharma was working with the software company based in software park at Hinjewadi, she allegedly passed on vital data and the source code of programs developed by her company to her husband through an IBM email ID between October 8, 2006 and September 3, 2007, the police submitted in the court. As an engineer of her company, Sharma was privy to the source of code of InterOp software, a French company with which 3 DPLM was dealing in the development of software.
She used the computer of her company to send data by internet and police have confiscated two hard discs of the computer. She resigned just before the cyber crime was noticed by the officials of 3DPLM Software Solutions. The company registered a case against Anita Sharma with the Hinjewadi police station. She filed anticipatory bail application in the court, which was rejected. Following this development, she was arrested on Tuesday.
"She had signed a contract with the company at the time of joining, which has a non-disclosure article. By her conduct she has violated the contract," said Assistant Police Commissioner MP Karade.
Police are looking at the leads whether the source code passed on by the accused has been used by someone else. Only after this investigation will it be possible to determine the exact loss caused by the cyber theft, the
police added.
