Pune student dumps newborn

The Yerawada police have detained a 19-year-old engineering student, an unwed mother who dumped her newborn son into a ditch in the society. The baby died due to unknown reasons.

The society’s watchman informed the chairman.  The woman resided in a 1BHK apartment with her parents. Her two elder sisters are married.  

Senior inspector Deepak Sawant, in-charge of Yerawada police station, told DNA, “The woman is a student and was pregnant. On Sunday morning, we got a call that an unclaimed baby boy was found in a ditch. We traced out the mother. She has been admitted to Sassoon General Hospital for collection of her DNA samples and post-pregnancy precautions, while the viscera of the baby have been preserved.”

The police said, “On Saturday night she delivered the child and on Sunday midnight she threw it into a ditch. The watchman heard the baby crying and found the baby unconscious.”
