Teachers in the city are again a wary lot as they will have to work simultaneously on census work, checking board examination papers and conducting school examinations.

With school examinations beginning this week, principals of school are finding it difficult to cope with inadequate staff. Principal of Nutan Marathi Vidyalaya, Madhura Kulkarni said, “I’ve a total number of 36 teachers, out of which over 16 have been assigned to census duty, while some are engaged in checking board papers. I’m finding it extremely difficult to manage the school vis-a-vis the examinations that will begin this week.”

Apte Prashala principal Teresa David said, “Teachers who have gone for census work have not been given paper checking and visa-versa. But yes, because of lower number of teachers, we are finding it difficult to manage the school.”

A teacher from Shiv Bhumi Vidyalaya said, “We are one of the centres for standard X examination and supervision is compulsory for us. On top of that we have census duty, school examination work and board paper checking.”

Principal of Renuka Swaroop Memorial High School, Savita Kajrekar said, “We did an adjustment. The teachers who are on census duty will be free of paper checking duties. Those who are free of their assigned duties will have to carry out their daily duties at the school.

This way we have ensured that the work at the school will not be affected much,” she said.
