Autorickshaw unions in the city have demanded a hike of Rs2 in fare following the increase in petrol prices.
A final decision would be taken during the meeting of the district transport authority (DTA) headed by the district collector, Vikas Deshmukh.
The Pune RTO conducted a meeting with city automen’s federations, who demanded that the tariff should be Rs12, instead of the present Rs11, for the first km. The tariff should be Rs10, instead of Rs9, for travelling every additional km.
According to RTO officials, various passenger associations have demanded that the fares should not be increased as it was already done in February this year.
“The authorities must keep in mind the quality of services that autorickshaws are rendering to commuters. They must ensure that drivers do not overcharge and do not refuse passengers to take them to different destinations,” said Pedestrians’ First convenor, Prashant Inamdar.
The Rickshaw Panchayat, Pune City Autorickshaw Federation and Savkaash Autorickshaw Federation are some of the prominent automen’s unions that demanded the hike.
Regional transport officer Chandrakant Kharatmal said, “We will consider their demands at the May 31 meeting.”
